Johannes serves as a senior advisor to Swiss Consulting Group and is based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He brings a wide range of academic, professional and cross-cultural experiences to his role.
Born in the Netherlands, he studied development economics at the PUC of Rio de Janeiro and holds a Ph.D. degree in moral theology and business ethics from University of Louvain (2008). He holds several financial licenses of the United States National Association of Securities Dealers, including Financial and Operations Principal (1998) and Investment Advisor (1999).
As an investment banker, Johannes worked closely with government officials and CEOs of leading multinationals in their efforts to tap international capital markets. He was involved in the privatization of aerospace firm Embraer (1994) and mining company Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (1997). He participated in the $132 billion rescheduling of the internal and external liabilities of Argentina (2001) and has organized numerous corporate roadshows and institutional investor trips. He was also a panel participant in the Brazil Roundtable on Wall Street, organized by International Financing Review (2006).
As a development strategist, Johannes advised the United Kingdom Department for International Development on corporate responsibility strategies and micro finance policies in Brazil (2003). More recently, he has conducted doctoral research on corporate rules of engagement in areas of conflict, including the Equator Principles and Ecuador’s YasunÃ-ITT Trust Fund.
As a moral theologian, Johannes participated at the Fourth General Assembly of the Latin American Bishops Conference in Santo Domingo (1992), which marked the quincentenary of Columbus’ arrival in the Americas. More recently, he delivered a keynote speech at the expert seminar ’Revisiting Populorum Progressio 40 years after: Rethinking Catholic Development Ethics,’ in Louvain (2007). He is a research associate of the University of Louvain’s
Center for Economics and Ethics.
Johannes has been a guest speaker at a wide range of top universities, including Columbia in New York, Ateneo in Manila, Haute École de Gestion in Fribourg and Universität Sankt Gallen. He publishes frequently on issues related to corporate leadership and sustainable development.
