Guido Spichty has succeeded brilliantly in some of the most competitive arenas in business and sports. A one-time member of the Swiss national and Olympic hockey team, Guido has used the principles of championship sports to coach leaders and produce high-performance management. While still a hockey player, he also studied law at the same time and became a practicing lawyer in Neuchatel Switzerland. In 1977 he joined Ciba-Geigy as a corporate lawyer and translator of technical documents. From there, he worked his way up through the corporate ranks, with a stop in Manchester England for business school. His positions included stints as Manager of Turn-Around Project in 1982, Vice-President in 1991, and Head of International Management Education in 1992.

When Ciba-Geigy merged with Sandoz in 1996 to form Novartis, Guido became the new company's Director of Corporate Management Education and Training. In this role, he continued to develop leaders by acting as Manager of the Novartis Harvard Business School Programs, the General Manager of the Novartis Marketing Excellence Program in Stanford, San Francisco, and Switzerland, and Director of the Novartis Leadership Program. He brought new methods of change management and action learning to Novartis, encouraging revolutionary change, entrepreneurial thinking, risk-taking and powerful communication. Novartis has recognized his contributions with two "Novartis Human Resources Awards," in 2000 for excellence in innovation management and marketing education, and again in 2002 for lifetime achievement.

A consummate businessman, he has worked extensively in both the United States and Europe. He currently lives in the mountains of Valais Switzerland.

"One of the best books I ever read. It puts me into an environment of effectiveness and getting the job done. I ordered a special edition of 750 copies for associates and clients, with our logo on the cover. It's a small and high-leverage investment in my people’s leadership."
